Today is what I build my hope on. Today gives meaning to all of history. Today changes everything.
I think sometimes we skip over Easter as if its just one more holiday trumped by our love for Christmas. Sometimes it gets lost in the shuffle amongst countless holidays like Flag Day or President’s Day…But for a Christ follower, Easter is everything. The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus redefines reality.
It means that He really is the way, the truth, and the life…and that no one comes to the Father except through Him. It means that He keeps His promises, that He can and does give me a clean slate…a new beginning.
It means that I don’t have to keep trying to be king…and that my best decision is to forfeit my territory to Him.
That following Him is worth it because he found me worth it. He has never given up on me. He is not done with me and He loves me anyway. He is still writing my story. He is raising the dead in me.
Every day should be Easter. Every day is in the context of an empty tomb. We should never stop celebrating His resurrection, because without it, we have nothing. Without it, we are still in our sins. Without it, why follow Jesus?
In Surprised by Hope, NT Wright says, “This is our greatest day. We should put the flags out!” Flags always go out when there has been a transfer of power, when territory has been claimed, when victory has been won. I think its time we put the flags out and keep them out because Easter changes everything.
Love the quote!
