Slingshot57 Unplugged

For 8 years, Slingshot57 was just about all I did.  For the last 5 years of it, it really was all I did.  It held sway over every investment of time, energy, and resources for Crystal and I.  It was our joy and it was our heartache.  It was the venue of many encouragements and life change as well as the reason for plenty of hatemail and broken relationships.  It was our ministry.  Things change over time, and Slingshot57 was no exception.  For me, it was not just a rock band, it was a journey of obedience, a family, a vision, a calling.  It was our attempt to speak Truth and live Truth into the lives of those willing to listen.  It was never just about music.  It was about moments that matter.  Those pivitol conversations where everthing changes in someone’s life.

I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Its been just over 3 years since Slingshot57 played its last show.  After sharing music from stage over 1,000 times whether performing rock shows or leading worship, I would be dishonest if I said I wasn’t ecstatic to be sharing music with this group of guys again…even if its just for one night.  Over the last few years I have randomly performed some Slingshot57 songs at some coffee houses and events.  Some great friends playing alongside me have made that a lot of fun…but Slingshot57 guys performing Slingshot57 songs seems way cooler to me than just Ben doing it.  I never have been a solo guy…it seems awfully lonely.

This Saturday, February 26 we are coming together to perform some acoustic songs to help raise funds for a team of college students I am blessed to lead to Romania to work with Forget Me Not Minsitries this May.  FMN is a remarkable ministry to abandoned children in Tinca, Romania.  So, its the right time and the right reason.

So for me, this is special.  In these final days leading up to our “reunion of sorts” as I’ve called it…I’m excited.  I’m nostalgic.  Reminiscent.  Humbled.

I count myself blessed to be a part of what God has done through Slingshot57.

  1. I know that you you guys changed my life, the way I look at everything I do and every life I have the priveledge to touch. Thanks for being who you are and so transparent in your ministry.

  2. I miss you guys! Slingshot 57 is the best band ever, hands down! I wish I could be at the show, but it’s too far away. And I’ve got student teaching. I’ll keep looking for another reunion show to happen in my area someday.

    I ❤ Slingshot 57 forever!
