A while back we announced that Slingshot57 would be reuniting to perform at Powerlight Fest at the Illinois State Fair this coming August. A while before that we shared that we were recording again. And for many who might be reading this, you have no idea what or who I’m talking about. And that’s okay because I don’t expect ya to.
But once upon a time, I spent a ton of time running around the country with a group of guys, making music. And I’ve missed that…really just because I’ve missed them. We set out last year just to find a way to make more time together and stay connected as our lives have definitely taken each of us all over the place over the years. That’s why we decided to record some songs that we often played live, but never released. We just wanted a way to stay connected, a way to work on something together again. That was always my favorite part. But a few months back the conversation of playing a reunion show presented itself and it seemed to make sense, and so we said, “yes.”
It’s brought back a flood of memories, some beautiful, some gut-wrenching, most somewhere in between…all worth it. I look back and am thankful for those 8 years. I’m thankful for who God brought into my life, for what God taught me about myself, about others, about His Church, this world, about Himself. I’m thankful for the songs we wrote and the stories behind them. I’m thankful for a season that God used to shape me, quite significantly.
If everything goes right, we hope to have some songs to share online sometime in late July or early August. We will only release them digitally, no hard copies…ain’t nobody got time for that. But just like all our other music, you can snag it off Itunes, Spotify…or wherever you prefer. And somewhere in the next few months, we probably need to practice some to avoid a straight musical train wreck come State Fair time. We haven’t performed these songs for an audience in over 10 years, there’s room for error.
This isn’t a comeback. This isn’t an attempt at re-living the dream. This isn’t living in the past. This is just friends celebrating a season and sharing music that means something to them. This is a family reunion. One of the biggest blessings of being a part of Slingshot57 was all of the people it gave me the chance to meet all over the country. We never really had fans, we had friends…we had family, and my hope is that come August, we get the chance to see as many of them as possible.
Playing at Powerlight Fest was always like coming home. No matter where we had been, it was always where we saw familiar faces, singing every word with us, so its the perfect place for us to come home once again.
I’m excited to sing these songs again.
I’m excited to see friends we haven’t seen in what feels like forever.
I’m excited for funnel cakes and greasy fair food and of course, the Illinois State Fair butter cow. Don’t ask, just Google it.
I’m excited for my kids to get a glimpse into their Daddy…experiences that made me who I am now, people who mean the world to me.
So, I don’t know if you’re down for road trips, but we’d love to see you there, from wherever you might come from. Near or far, maybe we can share a funnel cake. If you already know you’re coming, let us know where from!
Here are details!
