Everybody Needs An Editor

I am a work in progress.  Some might say my filter doesn’t catch everything…or anything before it exits my mouth.  Some would probably say that’s a good thing, but I’m not always so sure.  Words have power and words sometimes come out of my mouth minus finesse…

And amazingly enough, much of my job is to create, craft and communicate content. Lots of it.  I mean tons.

Very little gets past Crystal…I wish I could say nothing gets past Crystal, but sometimes I jump the gun and preemptively utter something absurd or tweet something untweetable.  Even in those moments she helps me recover quickly.

Every song I’ve written, every blog, every sermon or message I’ve preached, she’s heard it first.

She is the best part of me, hands down the coolest. I can’t imagine my life without her, and I don’t want to. She’s had so much influence in my life that I don’t know where I end and where she begins. I find myself placing her in memories of life before I even met her. And I’m pretty sure that’s love.

Marriage is not easy, but it’s beautiful.  Marriage is incredibly hard work, but it’s the best work two people can do. And it’s worth making work.

The art of two becoming one is like learning to dance and keep rhythm with one another even when everything else around is off-beat. It’s harmonizing when you’re completely bombarded by a world singing in the wrong key.

Crystal doesn’t complete me, she compliments me. She isn’t behind me, she is beside me. It’s not “I” and “me,” it’s “we” and “us.” I believe that is the way it should be and the way God wants it to be. I believe it’s what God desires of our marriages.

I just like myself better with her.

Everybody needs an editor, and I’m thankful she’s mine.

  1. I love this, Benjamin! I began to read as the title mentions how much an editor is needed and being that I do a lot of editing for work, it piqued my interest. Turns out this is the best–nah, *the greatest* thing anyone can say about someone special in his/her life. Congrats to you both for complimenting each other perfectly: you as the composer, she as the editor. A match made in heaven. Beautiful!
