I love Father’s Day. It prompts me to take a step back and notice the remarkable men that have shaped and are shaping my life. It reminds me of how much I have to be thankful for…how very very blessed my life has been.
My dad is awesome. I know he would do anything for me…and when I think about all of the sacrifices he has made over the years for me, I am so humbled. My dad invests into me…he is always passing on things he has learned. My dad encourages me…he makes me feel incredibly special, gifted and treasured. My daddy loves me…I never doubt it. I see it when he looks at me, I feel it when he has his arm around me and I hear it when he speaks to me. I can’t even imagine what my life would look like without him…I love him so much. And the way he loves my kids is incredible…every silly joke, game of hide and seek and Indian lullaby makes me love my dad even more.
My father in law is awesome. From the very first time I met him, he accepted me into his family…no reservations, no conditions. He goes out of his way to help me…he has driven me to and from the airport countless times, come to my rescue when I’ve locked myself out of my car, and indulged my “creative” construction requests. I am so thankful for the way that he wholeheartedly encourages Benjamin to follow his dreams, even when they are unconventional. I have never doubted his support or approval of my marriage to his son. He is such a great Papa to my babies…fishing trips, surprise morning visits with a bag full of hashbrowns, and rocking them to sleep…it is so obvious how much he loves them.
And my Benjamin…he is awesome. He loves our kids. I love to just watch them together…they laugh together, sing together, snuggle together. I love to watch him play band with Ezra and I love to watch him twirl in ballerina circles with Calla. I love to watch him tear up with each tender little good night hug and kiss. I love to watch him sing songs about Jesus to them. I love to hear him speak so intentionally to them about their worth and how incredible he thinks they are. I love the father he is…love love love it. There are no words for how thankful I am that my babies have him as a father…we are all so blessed by him.
And I remember that the incredible fathers in my life are incredible because they follow the example of the Father. My God is an awesome God…beyond words, beyond anything, I am thankful for Him. He is my life…my whole life.
Thank you, Lord…how could I ask for more?
