Refreshing

I have seen my share of musical performances.  Last October, I encountered Gungor for the first time at Catalyst, and was deeply moved by the music they chose to share.  They only played three songs, and each have been stuck in my head ever since.  I literally will find myself singing “The Earth Is Yours” or  “Beautiful Things” or any other of their songs all the time at random.  I came home from Catalyst super jazzed and challenged about a great many things in my life and ministry.

Introducing Gungor to students when I returned was high on the priority list…we since have used their music in our worship services and it has helped make messages more memorable.

The other night I took Crystal, Ezra and Calla to go see them in Decatur and we had an incredible evening.  And it was super cool to share it with some Axiom students.  It was really good.  It was so refreshing to experience 90+ minutes of fluid music.  Ezra was glued the whole time, taking it all in…even singing…and as a dad, that was powerful.

So many words come to mind when trying to describe our experience that night…genuine, brilliant, complicated, technical, purposeful, authentic piercing worship.

It was beautifully crafted to tell a story…a story of redemption.

A story of how a holy God is still not done with us.  I am thankful He is not done with me.  I am thankful I am not who I could have been without Him.  We are all stories of redemption, stories of God’s goodness, testimonies of His faithfulness.  Sometimes we just aren’t ready to acknowledge it yet.

You may not feel like that is your story…or maybe that you have some chapters you would like ripped out and burned.  Forgotten.  But the story wouldn’t make sense without those chapters.  Mountains don’t really feel like mountains without the valleys.  Keep reading and let Him keep writing.  Its worth it.
